SMMT figures show increase in car registrations
Tuesday, June 8, 2010 11:04The number of new cars registered in the UK has increased by 22.16 per cent this year compared to 2009, according to latest figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Of the nation states, England witnessed the highest peak in new car registrations, recording a rise from 624,554 in 2009 to 768,147 this year.
Second in line was Northern Island with a 21.32 per cent rise in newly registered cars, while Wales came in third with an increase of 20.38 per cent. Scotland made it last with the current year’s figures improving by 15.38 per cent.
Of the car manufacturers, Ford finished top of the league, recording the maximum number of new cars registered in England, Northern Ireland as well as Wales. Ford Fiesta continued its winning streak in UK as the most popular car on the registration listings.
Last month Ford Fiesta won the Best Small Car of the Year 2010 at the Diesel Car magazine’s awards ceremony.
