Companies who have recently acquired commercial vehicles through a car salvage dealer are among those that have been invited to a course designed to help firms cut fuel use.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is running a half-day seminar on telematics which is designed to optimise the use of cars, vans and commercial vehicles by companies.

Among the benefits it has highlighted from these technologies are a reduction in CO2 emissions and costs for operators.

Robin Dickeson, manager of commercial vehicle affairs at the SMMT, claimed that deploying these technologies can help firms achieve savings of ten per cent within days.

He said: "The aim is to start discussion and make people aware of the big savings in fuel use, emissions and cash that are available right now from the intelligent use of telematics."

Earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz World announced that it would be running a green car event showcasing innovations in this area.

In addition to displays showing off the B-Class F-Cell hydrogen-powered fuel cell, it highlighted the importance of car recycling.ADNFCR-3009-ID-19654154-ADNFCR
